Every behavior has some type of positive intention in the correct circumstances. Behavior cannot be interpreted or comprehended with any degree of confidence if treated in isolation. This is a little difficult to comprehend unless you “Chunk up” to find the higher purpose behind the action.
Consider the case of a person having a screaming fit and hurling objects through windows with extreme force. The person then snatches up a child and begins running with them in their arms. In normal circumstances this would seem to be an explosive fit of rage followed by a kidnapping. However, if you were told that this was a parent trying to save their child from a burning building then this would be an appropriate type of behavior. The context of this event legitimizes the behavior.
In terms of ecology does the behavior benefit themselves, others or the community ? In the above example it examination of the ecology clearly shows that it is ecologically appropriate. Now in some cases “destructive” behavior which includes self-sabotage such as unhealthy diet and exercise regime can be reasonably discussed and shown to be an undesirable outcome. For example a healthy lifestyle is far more preferable for a parent because it helps prolong life which would be better for your children thus improving your quality of life.
This presupposition encourages you to look past the external behavior of others and force you to examine the possible causes in a non-judgmental way.
